Help to identify correct driver to use (MTX or MGA)

Postby padmx » Thu Jan 17, 2008 8:24 pm

Hi,

Well, here is my situation:
The company where I work bought a couple of HP Proliant ML110 G4 servers. I want to install Ubuntu 6.06, but when I run the Live CD, it boots at a very low resolution and I cant follow the visual installer. I guess the problem is that Ubuntu doesn't recognize the graphics adapter.

So, I plan to install Ubuntu Server Edition (also 6.06), then install the appropriate video driver and finally install GNOME. But, the thing is, I dont know which driver to use..

Here is some information:

Code: Select all
sudo lshw -C video

The results are:

Code: Select all
*-display
       description: VGA compatible controller
       product: Matrox Graphics, Inc.
       vendor: Matrox Graphics, Inc.
       physical id: 0
       bus info: pci@03:00.0
       version: 02
       size: 16MB
       width: 32 bits
       clock: 33MHz
       capabilities: vga bus_master cap_list
       resources: iomemory:ee000000-eeffffff iomemory:ef800000-ef803fff iomemory:ef000000-ef7fffff irq:7

Also, the result of the command:

Code: Select all
sudo lspci

Shows:
Code: Select all
0000:03:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Matrox Graphics, Inc.: Unknown device 0522 (rev 02)

So, after reading a couple of posts in this forum, I know that I have to know which driver to use (MTX or MGA). so
if anyone can help me to identify which driver to use, it would be appreciated..

Sorry for my english, I'm from Mexico

Unknown device 0522 (rev 02)

According to [http://pci-ids.ucw.cz/iii/?i=102b], this seems to be a "MGA G200e [Pilot] ServerEngines (SEP1)", so the mga driver should work
for you.
