Last week they told me, it's the 15th of May. I hope they can release it on the new date. I'm really curious. Only downer is that it will only support 8.10. Man, I hope they catch up with Ubuntu.

The only important thing is that they update the mtx_drv.so to the new Xorg API. If they do that, we have won, because everything else (new kernels and stuff) I can handle, i just don't have the source to the X driver that's why I'm unable to make it work with the latest Xorg distributions.

So let's just hope they fixed this single issue and we will have a working driver for all major distributions again soon.

There is a new 1.4.7 driver on the Matrox website! Downloaded it, and compiled it without a problem on Ubuntu 9.04.

Now you need to register before you can download. After entering "your" personal data, you can download directly.

Previously, there was always this blue Matrox splash screen that told me the driver was ok, grey splash screen was not ok, for example after an update that replaced libglx.so. Now there is no more splash screen. Well, let's see what happens after a few Ubuntu upgrades.

Some weird things happening now: sometimes it goes into a mode (mood?) where the mouse is displayed on the left (primary) screen, but the events are sent to the right screen. When I click on a window on the left screen, nothing will happen (right screen is empty). When I right-click somewhere on the left screen, the context menu pops up on the right screen. Alt-tab is also displayed on the right screen even though the mouse is on the left. This stops once I move the mouse to the right screen and do a right click there. Haven't quite figured out what causes this to happen.

Also, whenever I start an application, I get the message:
Xlib: extension "RANDR" missing on display ":0.0"

I'm now using Ubuntu 9.04 with mtx 1.4.7. My xorg.conf is the same that I used in Ubuntu 8.04 with mtx 1.4.6, it's here: http://www.pastebin.ca/1433605

1.4.7 works incl. RANDR on Ubuntu 8.04 LTS 64-bit 4GB RAM

Works quite well for me too, although I'm not finished with the testing. When booting without the kernel module in place, I got a really weird kernel panic, telling me that my system has a hardware failure, which it definetely doesn't have, but otherwise, it looks good.

Compiles out of the box on 2.6.29.4 and, surprise, surprise, you can grep for "tuxx-home.at" in the driver sources and get lots of results, so they actually left in some of my comments and most of my changes which they always used to kick before, so I think we're on the right track, either they got new people coding the drivers or something has changed internally.

Another odd thing: CTRL-ALT-F1 restarts X, it doesn't give me a console as it used to. This happens regardless of the DontZap option. My other Ubuntu machines don't do that, so, don't know, is the driver involved in this?

Can you see anything in the Xorg logfiles or syslog, dmesg or the like at the time you're pressing this key combination?

It doesn't always crash like this, sometimes I can get a console and go back to X, sometimes I can't. Whether I have windows open when I press CTRL-ALT-F1 or not, doesn't seem to matter.

Just now I had this odd thing again where mouse actions switch to the second monitor while the pointer is still on the first. Xorg.log now contains many of the following lines:
