I have a P650 with Fedora Core 6, latest updates and Gnome desktop. Running with Alexander's 1.4.4.4 driver (at least I think I have that driver installed - how to verify it?).

I have two HP L2045w flat panels that can do 1680x1050 and these monitors can pivot into landscape mode. Currently the driver is only driving out to one of them even though they are both connected.

I can't find a GUI way that works to tell it to go into Dual Head mode, let alone rotated to portrait.

I can NOT save the settings for going into dual head.

If I go into Gnome System | Display then up pops "Display settings". I can choose the tab "Dual head" and click on the "Use dual head" option. Since my monitor type is not listed (any idea how to add it?) "I choose LCD Panel 1680x1050". It already shows the correct video card. I select 1680x1050 and "Spanning Desktops". But if I click the "OK" button it does not save. The dialog box remains open.

If I go into Gnome Preferences | Screen Resolution then the Rotatiion item is grayed out at normal. So I can not specify rotation either.

Unfortunately, you can't verify the installed version by looking at the Xorg.0.log
file, because I can't modify the source part where the version information
is being printed into the Xorg log.
The only thing you can verify is, that you have the 1.4.4 version installed
and the subversion determines basically if the driver lets install itself on your
system or if it doesn't :)

I can't find a GUI way that works to tell it to go into Dual Head mode, let
alone rotated to portrait.


Unfortunately, there is no GUI mode to tell it to do so. The matrox drivers
are _NOT_ supported by any X configuration GUI known to me so you will
have to do the configuration on your own - by hand.

Please post your current xorg.conf and Xorg.0.log file here and I'll try to
build a working configuration file for you.

Is there a way to do attachments?


At the moment, this isn't possible. I don't know, if phpbb supports this kind
of attachments to postings, but I'll have a look.

As you can see, I commented the "Rotate" options in both screen sections.
If you want to rotate the screen, simply uncomment these two lines.

I'm currently using a P650 with dual 1680x1050 screens in landscape mode and now want to do the same but in portrait mode. (v 1.4.5.1 32bit intel).

I added the rotation statement Option "Rotate" "CW" # CW = clockwise, CCW = counter-clockwise to each screen section in the xorg.conf file as per above.

However I can only get both screens in portrait mode at 1280x1024 or just one screen at 1680 x 1050.

In the Xorg.0.log.old file attached, i notice the error "(II) MTX(0): Largest offscreen area available: 1050 x 840" perhaps this has something to do with the problem but i'm not sure.

Please could you offer some help?
