Xorg does not load sucessful anymore :-(

This forum is for all Parhelia based cards (Millenium P650, P690, P750, QID, Parhelia 256, APVe, ...) that need the mtx driver to run properly.

Yes, with only 2GB RAM mtx works well on a 64bit system.

Btw. I remember now, why my mtx worked already on a 64bit system with 8GB RAM.
It was without acceleration...
According to Matrox's readme file a blue parhelia splash screen at Xorg startup indicates
working hardware acceleration and a magenta coloured one indicates that hardware acceleration is disabled...

Is there a way to get the mtx driver working without hardware acceleartion but with using 64bit and 4gb?

In fact it is much more important to me to use two sceens (the hw acceleration would be nice but is not a must) and at the moment i can only use one screen... since vesa can only use one screen (i guess; maybe i am too stupid to configure two screens with the vesa driver)

You don't need to use the vesa driver. Use the same configuration file as you would use in an accelerated setup, but make sure to _NOT_ load mtx.ko, e.g. simply remove this file from your system and the X server should start up magenta and without acceleration.

With 3GB it works, too. So the limit, where it stops working is in between 3 and 4GB...

@Niko_K
Please report this issue to Matrox. I did it already. The more user report the issue the sooner they do something to fix it...

Thank you very much....

OK, glad that it's working now for you and thanks for opening a tech support request.

I hope Matrox can shed some light on this and is able to track this issue down.
BTW: Please don't try 2.6.26 kernels on your system by now, the driver does currently _NOT_ support 2.6.26 (I'm working on a solution right now).
Maybe having PAT (as opposed to MTRR and made available in 2.6.26) support in the mtx driver will fix this memory issue, but I don't know if I'm able to hack PAT support into the driver...

Today I tested the new bios which was released on may 24th, 2008.
It does not solve this issue.

Does this also hold true for new xorg 7.4 (and kernel 2.6.27-9)?
I copied the same xorg.conf to my newly installed kubuntu 8.10 system and followed the guidelines from viewtopic.php?f=2&t=655%3E (had the same problem on my x86_64 system)... so drivers are compiled successfully and installed on my system

However... a "startx" gives me a "driver could not be loaded" error now... no matter if the driver is installed or renamed (so the driver is not found)
