Installation of Cisco VPN Client 4.8.02.0030 fails

Postby pfandleiher » Thu Apr 02, 2009 12:23 am

Hello everybody,

I've a never ending problems with the Cisco VPN-Client, so my first question is: Is it really necessary for me to use it?

The facts: The Administrators of the EDPC at my University are funny Windows-Guys. I get no Support from there, it's easier for them to say I should use the Proxy Server with only is open to port 80.

So my first Question: Can I use vpnc either? For Cisco VPN Client I need to import two files, one is a pcf-file which should be saved under /etc/CiscoSystemsVPNClient/Profiles and one is a p7b-File which has to be importet to /etc/CiscoSystemsVPNClient/Certificates.
I've read a lot about vpnc, most was telling that vpnc can't do a special Certificate-Procedure, so the Cisco-Client is the only option I have.
Is this right for me? This would be nice...

Otherwise:
My System:
Linux 2.6.27.19-3.2-pae #1 SMP 2009-02-25 15:40:44 +0100 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux

The vpn-client I've tried:
vpnclient-linux-x86_64-4.8.02.0030-k9.tar.gz
I've downloaded the client from this page: http://projects.tuxx-home.at/ciscovpn/clients/linux/4.8.02/

After extracting the archive I run ./vpn_install and get the following:

Code: Select all

Automatically start the VPN service at boot time [yes]no

In order to build the VPN kernel module, you must have the
kernel headers for the version of the kernel you are running.

* Binaries will be installed in "/usr/local/bin".

* The VPN service will *NOT* be started automatically at boot time.
* Kernel source from "/lib/modules/2.6.27.19-3.2-pae/build" will be used to build the module.

Is the above correct [y]
