Very slow performance with G450 Card

Hi
A little bit of history before I describe my problem:
* I had a pretty good setup with Ubuntu 8.04 with my Matrox G450 card, dual monitors and everything was working fine.
* I upgraded from Ubuntu 8.04 to 8.10 to 9.04, to find my dual monitors not working .
* After trying a lot of things to fix it, I bought a new gfx card that I would make things easier (an nvidia card)
* Dual monitors worked, but everything was so slow because of high CPU usage. I thought it was probably due to some issue with 9.04.
* I learned my lesson about upgrading to new releases, and made a new home partition, and reinstalled 8.04 in an effort to get it back the way it was before.
* It seems that cpu usage was high even with a new install of 8.04, so I thought it was just the gfx card that was bad; everything will be fine once I go back to my old Matrox G450 gfx card.

Everything is not fine, as you can see when I run top:

Xorg is pretty much using half my processor...i don't think it used to be this slow before I tried the upgrades.

Here's what happens when I run some other commands:

So I tried once more with the overwrite option:

After this point I restarted, and X would go into "safe mode". I restarted GDM using symlinks with my xorg.conf file, and now I can't get dual monitors to work (see post above for xorg.conf file)! And the CPU usage problem still wasn't fixed either.

I'm wondering if the high CPU issue is un-related to the graphics card....because I was getting the same issue with the NVidia card.

What should I do now at this point?
