G550 on Ubuntu Jaunty (9.04).

This forum is for questions about all G-series cards (G200, G400, G450, ...) that need the mga driver to work properly

G550 on Ubuntu Jaunty (9.04).

Postby rew » Tue Jun 16, 2009 3:35 pm

I've tried upgrading from Debian to Ubuntu, but I can't seem to be able to get a working configuration.

I've tried installing the mga driver from here. One of the most promising configurations had my Sony monitor (on the VGA output) telling me that the syncs were way below speed. (about 2x too slow). My Lacie monitor on the DVI ouput goes blank.

When I use the failsafe setup, I get a 1280x1024 (instead of native 1600x1200) display on the lacie.

The output below is from after installing the driver. Before, it got a whole lot further, but I seem to remember that I need the (hal-) driver for DVI output, and/or dualscreen.

Your operating system is too new, so this driver doesn't work on it unfortunately. As a workaround, you could run the default vesa driver on this card or pick the Xorg mga driver which has a limited feature set but should work quite well though, depending on what you need.

The best solution for your problem:
Code: Select all
sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

add value ""ReducedBlanking"" and "NoDDC":
Code: Select all
Section "Monitor"
   Option       "ReducedBlanking"
EndSection

Section "Device"
   Option       "NoDDC"
EndSection
