Need Help Setting UP Dual Display Matrox 450 AGP in Fedora 8

Postby tommydemise » Wed Nov 12, 2008 11:16 pm

Hello All,

I'm somewhat new to Linux so any help would be greatly Appreciated.

I'm trying to setup Dual Display in Fedora 8 with a Matrox 450 AGP.
I have read as many Doc's forums and how-to's as I can find on the subject, but with no luck of understanding or any luck.

I'm building a Linux DAW with Dual Display to allow me to view the Track Recording window and Mixer window on seperate screens.

I will upload my System files to see if anyone can help me with this.

The setup I would like is one large desktop spanned over the two screens with ablity to windows from one to the other.

Now, with doing this are the included drivers for the Matorx included with the Linux Distro able to do this or will I need to install alternative drives? If I do need to install Alt drivers, how is this done? I have been reading the Forums on this but am unclear as to how this is done. I have downloaded the Official Drivers from Matrox and tried to run the installer but it ask for the Xfree Directory, which I have looked for and am unable to find.

I am not concered with any 3D accelaration with this video card just a basic Dual Display.

Thank you for your time in advance.

Sorry, I was basically offline in here for a few months. Do you still have this problem?

Hi,

Yes i am still having problems with this. I've been away for awhile also.

during that time I have tried several different Distro's trying to get the Dual Head thing working, but with no luck.
I have come back to Fedora 8, I have installed the Unofficial Drivers, I have also tried several "xorg.conf" configurations with no luck. Once making my changes, I then reboot and either it does not work at all and I have to go through the X Cong before being able to log in or I am able to log in with no problems (but with out the dual Monitors.)

Thanks,

If you have a windows machine next to your linux machine or if your linux machine is directly connected to the internet and you could give me SSH access to it (or Teamviewer on windows), I can work that out for you. Just drop me an e-mail or send me a PM.
