Ubuntu Hardy Problems

Postby Highmad » Wed Jun 04, 2008 4:41 pm

Hi,

i recently upgraded to Ubuntu Hardy (from 7.10) and now the unofficial driver is not working anymore (it worked fine before).

I tried to use the 4.4.4 version exactly as explained in post http://forum.tuxx-home.at/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=537 but the xserver won't start after the installation.

There's the following error message:

Code: Select all
(EE) module ABI major version (1) doesn't match the server's version (2)
(EE) Failed to load module "mga" (module requirement mismatch, 0)

No drivers available

Does someone have a clue how to get it to work? It's very important because the unofficial driver was the only way I could manage to set up two MGAs with four screens on one computer.

My xorg.conf is attached.

Thanks and regards
Highmad

I did have some problem with the driver as well and it won't even recognize the card. So I tried installing the Xorg mga driver from synaptic package manager and then uninstall it using the steps mentioned from the thread you mentioned above and reinstalled the unofficial 4.4.4 and it worked for me. Don't understand why, but I'm waiting for his reply. Hope that will work for you, 'coz I don't see anything wrong with your xorg.conf file. So what driver does your xorg.0.log says being used? Is your card being detected as an mga card at all?
