G450, Ubuntu Hardy, No Picture.

Postby mrelectron » Wed Apr 02, 2008 4:24 pm

Hi:

The familiar story, cannot get any output on my monitor. i have tried a variety of xorg.conf settings. The xorg.conf and xorg.log (attached) give me the black and white chequered screen with the "x" cursor.

HorizSync & VertRefresh values are from the monitor documentation as is the recommended resolution of 1680x1050

If anybody can help me get a picture on this monitor that would be great. I don't even want dual monitor support, just output to a single monitor would be great.

environment:
X : 1.4.0.90
linux : 2.6.24-12
dist : ubuntu 8.04 hardy heron.
graphics : Matrox Millennium G450 Video Card 32MB PCI G45FMDVP32DB Dual Head
machine : DELL SC1430 X86-64
monitor : ViewSonic VX2235wm 22" Digital Flat Panel

Thanks
Mark

PS: I have attached xorg.conf, xorg.log and lspci output

So what's wrong with the black and white chequered X server screen?
This is the default stuff that shows up when you start your X server manually without starting any X clients (e.g. KDE, Gnome, whatever) afterwards.

Please tell me if I did misunderstand you, but you are seeing the grey hatched picture with the X cursor, right? So then your graphics card setup is basically working. The only thing you might be missing is to start your login- resp. window manager that shows you some nicer pictures ;)
