The last command was `lsattr /etc/X11/xorg.conf`, not `ls -a /etc/X11/xorg.conf` again.
Please post it.

Ah, and please get me the file "/tmp/trace.out" generated by the following command too:

Code: Select all
strace -f -o /tmp/trace.out X -config /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Please install the strace command. At this point it is necessary to have it in place to debug this issue further.
strace should be the name of the installable package too and should be easily installable with the help of your
package management utility.

I reistalled Fedora from scratch, without the devenloppement repos;
I use kernel 2.6.23 and X is now working properly, as it works in ubuntu.

sorry for the problems, coming from my very poor experience in Fedora

thank you very muche for assistance,

I think that was a very good idea. I showed your strace output to some of my colleagues and all of them were
puzzled and voted for wrong permissions on /etc/X11/xorg.conf, but according to your output, that wasn't
the case.

I assume, that the X server you had installed is very unstable at the current time and so it's a better idea
to reinstall your system.

Good to know that it works now for you.

thank you very muche for assistance,

Don't worry, you're welcome :)
