G400 TV out on Gutsy for MythTV

Postby Lytspeed » Fri Nov 30, 2007 7:44 am

I'm running Mythbuntu under Gutsy Gibbon successfully with the following hardware:

Intel Celeron 2.6 GHz, 1 Gb RAM, 30Gb boot drive, 40Gb Storage drive (yeah, I know, I need a bigger storage drive), AVermedia PVR-150 tuner, Matrox G400 Dual Head, onboard sound, MCE USB remote

Everything works perfectly except the TV Out on the Matrox card. With the G400, I should be able to plug composite video into the second head and drive my ancient (i.e., non-SVideo) TV with it.

I found an old thread at KnoppMyth showing what needs to be done (http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtop...55a6b84c52a00d), but when I download the Matrox drivers and try to install them, I get the following message:

"ERROR: The X server drivers included in this installation package do not support the current version of your X server."

Obviously, the Gutsy X drivers are too new for these old Matrox drivers.

So, does anyone have a working Matrox G400 TV-Out configuration they are willing to share, or any other feedback? Since my TV does not have anything but Composite input, I'm stuck with that for now.

Any help is appreciated.

support the current version of your X server.

Sorry for the late reply :-/
Try to install the latest unofficial mga driver (v4.4.3, currently) which can
be downloaded in the "Downloads" section of this forum or directly from

It should install well on this system and the TV-Out should be supported too.
Please make sure to read the installation instructions for the unofficial driver
packages before trying to install them:

I'll check both of these resources out. Thanks for the reply, and no worries that it took a while.

Have you solved this issue already? We're currently having another discussion in here about the same issue...

Actually, I ultimately abandoned the G400 in favor of an nVidia 5500, which worked correctly right out of the box. Unfortunately, that means I don't have anything meaningful to contribute regarding the G400, other than the fact that I was not able to get it to work correctly.

Sorry, :(
