Matrox G400 unofficial driver and Quake 3 resolution problem

Postby Lourog » Sun Oct 28, 2007 7:15 pm

Hello,

I would like to use the unofficial matrox driver for the video output capabilities (Tv out) but I would like to keep my box working with everything I installed before.

After installed the driver everything goes well (the HAL driver was loaded).

But when I use quake3 I can't decrease resolution under 1024 (my Desktop resolution). The resolution is decreased but the game is shown in a surface of 1024 width size...

Is it a configuration problem ?

Thank you for this nice driver :).

Louis.

Can I please see your /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /var/log/Xorg.0.log files?

Thank you for you interest.

Hope these files can help you.

An important thing is that with the default mga driver I could play Quake normaly.

Bye

So you need to run Quake3 with a lower resolution, right? Does Quake3
do this on its own or do you need to do something before starting Quake3 to
decrease the resolution?

Could you please try to make me a screenshot so that I can understand what
you're talking about? ;) Currently, I can't imagine what you're seeing on your
system. The logfiles basically look good.

I took a screenshot to show you the problem.

I don't know if you can help me, I hope you can :).

Here I have Quake3 launched in a 800*600 resolution but shown in a 1024*726 surface

Bye.

Maybe you're interested in giving admered1's patchset a try?

If you want to, I can build an unofficial installer package with these changes.

Hello,

I'm not sure that I understood the post ...

I use only VGA connector not DVI or HDMI connector... I can't test this patch, I don't have any Matrox which can be used with digital signal ...

If I didn't understand the topic, could you explain it to me ?

That doesn't matter, the patch does more than that.
It basically is a merge of the unofficial driver and the Xorg driver which
contains several bugfixes and enhancements the unofficial driver hasn't
incorporated yet, so maybe it fixes your issue as well.

I'll package this driver merge up to ease the installation of it and will report
back here when I'm done so you can give it a try.

Update:
OK, that may take a while, because anvil.org is down currently.
Will try again later.

After having a closer look it seems that this patch doesn't do what it is supposed to, so my question here is: Is this problem still relevant to you or has it solved itself over the time?
