This forum is for questions about all G-series cards (G200, G400, G450, ...) that need the mga driver to work properly

g400: dual head partly working

Postby Finswimmer » Thu Mar 15, 2007 6:38 pm

Hi!

First I would like to thank you for all your work and the newest drivers.

I managed it to get the second output working.

But I cannot see a picture on both screens at the same time.

This works:

DISPLAY=:0.1 mplayer /home/filesharing/incoming/test.mpg -vo x11 #TV
DISPLAY=:0.0 mplayer /home/filesharing/incoming/test.mpg -vo x11 #CTR

Ok. Thats not the real problem because I wanna take off the CTR.

But tvtime says:

Code: Select all
DISPLAY=:0.1 tvtime -f europe -n PAL -m -v
Starte tvtime 1.0.2.
Lese Konfiguration aus /etc/tvtime/tvtime.xml
Lese Konfiguration aus /root/.tvtime/tvtime.xml

So I cannot watch Tv on the Tv ;)

Can you help me?

Tobi

P.S: Ich seh grad, dass du Österreicher bist. Das nächste Mal muss ich mich dann nicht so abmühen ;)

Should have post xorg.conf and x.log ;)

xorg.conf: http://rafb.net/p/WsCtdG39.html
x.log: http://rafb.net/p/Va5U6Z89.html

BTW: How can I enable Direct Rendering?

Many thanks

You're welcome :)

Regarding the problem with YUV/YUV2, please have a look at this
very detailed explanation:

It looks like as if you need another kernel module, called mga_vid.ko, that
does the trick for you.

Please tell me, what exactly you want to achieve.
In your xorg.conf I saw that you would like to have a cloned configuration,
is that desired?

I also found some lines in your logfile that tell me that you previously had
an nVidia card installed and that the nvidia driver hasn't been removed
completeley, therefore - e.g. - the glx module that is to be loaded by
the X server is incompatible with your graphics card driver as mentioned
here:

(EE) Failed to initialize GLX extension (Compatible NVIDIA X driver not found)

There are some other things that came to my eyes, but please tell me
first what your desired setup is.

I want to have a real clone mode.
CRT and TV should display the same picture.

I thought that mga_vid is only for FB.

That was the way I used the g400 before trying to switch to X.

Hey!

With "X -ignoreABI -allowMouseOpenFail -verbose +xinerama" I have a real clone modus.

But I cannot play tvtime at both screens.

Even if I have mga_vid loaded.
(I used this module for FB, but now I wanna have X)

Well, then I guess the "-ignoreABI" hasn't been passed correctly to your X
server by your login manager, right?

But I cannot play tvtime at both screens.

Well, hmm... I never did do this, so I'm afraid I can't be of much help.
How does it look like when you try to start tvtime? Do you see the window
borders on the second head but not the video playback or are there any
error messages printed out?

I don't know for sure if Xinerama maybe is the problem, because it disables
hardware acceleration (and therefore may disable video overlay too).

Maybe it helps, if I could have a look at your logfile and configuration file?
